| A commercial print was inspiration for this very small
art quilt. Within it, I saw a heart shaped outline of red and pink roses.
Over 200 hours of needlework went into the creation of "Valentine Bouquet". To achieve the three-dimensional effect of the roses and leaves, I developed a special technique called 'double trapunto'. During the first quilting phase, each individual rose petal was contoured. After adding metallic embroidery and embellishments, a second extra thick layer of batting, a piece of foamcore, and a second backing where added. Then I quilted only at the edges roses to make them round forward. Satin cording adorned with metal and glass leaves are gathered up in silk ribbons hang freely from the base of the bouquet. Final touches of iridescent acrylics bring the flowers to life. |
