| Shore Birds, Long Beach Island Updated 8/15/01: Sold at Shore Birds is comprised of four individual 4.75"w by 3.25"h quilts. They mounted in the same double, white matte and natural-finished oak frame as Summer Scenes. The outer dimension of the frame is 11"w by 22.5"h by 1"d. What's missing in these images is the dimensional depth of my artwork. The web image flattens out the roll of the dunes and the puff of the clouds. Each bird has been backstitched to make it 'pop' forward. Each blade of dune grass on the two middle panels is embroidered in cotton thread. The water line on the flats of the bottom quilt is edged in subtlety shimmering white and light blue rayon. The jetty and white caps are accented in iridescent white metallic thread. Also, the camera can't capture the sparkle of the glimmering, iridescent acrylics I apply to the commercial fabric. Nor does it pick up the shine from the pearls and crystals that look like bubbles in the surf. The shells are only 1/8th of an inch and are to close in color to the sand to show. But they add such and important texture and realism to the piece. If you take a walk through the bird sanctuary on
the southern tip of Long Beach Island, these are four scenes you would
typically see. The miniature clamshells that
are stitched among the embroidered sand pipers were collected in Spray
Beach, NJ where we dock our Mariner Yacht 36, Fandango. |
