Updated 10/5/05:

Buzzy, our 21-year-old Tonkinese, was always ready to 'supervise' me. She made sure I pieced the binding together on the bias! Usually I do all my sewing by hand, but for this multi-colored finishing, I pulled out the portable machine and placed it on our navigation station in the 'saloon' of Fandango.

Updated 8/1/01: Here a detail shot of the junior clubhouse. Those are real shells that were collected from the shore of Long Beach Island.

Pearls, crystals, and metallic thread were stitched on to look like surf. The little jumping fishies have colorful beads for eyes.

The dune grass is heavily embroidered to add dense texture to the piece. The clubhouse and sails were created by a technique that I've dubbed 'layered appliqué'.

Updated 7/18/01: During the summer we spend as much time as possible on our sailboat Fandango. So many of my quilted wall hangings have been created aboard. To see learn more about my 'floating' studio click here.

Fellow members of Spray Beach Yacht Club on Long Beach Island, NJ commissioned a wall hanging of their two Hobie catamarans. The Hall's selected a festive, Caribbean color scheme with the help of Jinny Beyer's Portable Palette:

These are photos of the Hall's Hobie and the SBYC Junior Clubhouse that I used as reference.

To get an idea how thrilling it is to ride a Hobie, look below. The picture of my husband Peter is from when we rented a Wave and sailed from Nevis to St. Kitts in the West Indies last winter. As you can see from the bow shot, they're fast, fun, and wet boats.
